Prayer Book Published in the Language of Madagascar

May 6, 2023 By Fr. John 1 Comment

An Orthodox prayer book was recently published in Malagasy, the national language of Madagascar, reports the Russian Orthodox Church’s African Exarchate.

The text was translated by Fr. Makary Ratudzunantenaina, a cleric of the Exarchate.

Prayer books were previously published in Tiv (Nigeria), Kirundi (Burundi) and Swahili.

Malagasy is the westernmost Malayo-Polynesian language, spoke by about 25 million people in Madagascar and the Comoros. Most people in Madagascar speak it as their first language.

Last year, OrthoChristian reported on the publication of a prayer book in the Cebuano language of the Philippines.

I am glad to see that the Orthodox Church is very active in Madagascar. As for myself, I worked as lay missionary in Madagascar for about eight years and I still miss this red and lovely country, which it is still very close to my heart.
    God bless you all.
