550 Students Baptized in Belgrade

April 18, 2011 By Fr. John 1 Comment

Outside the Cathedral of Saint Mark in Belgrade yesterday, April 17th (Palm Sunday), 550 primary and secondary students were baptized into the Orthodox Christian Church. This marks probably the largest mass baptism in the city of Belgrade.

The baptism is organized by the Commission for Religion of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovikiou, headed by Bishop Athanasios of Chvosnou, President of the Commission. The service was conducted by Bishop Athanasios along with clergy of the Patriarchate of Serbia.

The Bishop spoke to the students outside the Cathedral where this years marathon is set to begin, saying:

“Your action is the beginning of a spiritual marathon – a marathon of life in Christ.”
